To find the man pages on a subject use:

man -k [subject]

man ps
man -k system
man -k talk

Man page sections:

1 .......... User commands.
2 .......... Programming interface (system calls).
3 .......... Programming interface (external functions and subroutines)
4 .......... File Format
5 .......... System (administrative) commands. Sometimes also (8)
+ .......... Other sections.
